HR generalists who lead HR for large divisions face unique challenges. The role of the “Senior/Executive HR Business Partner” is evolving rapidly, making it more important than ever for these HR leaders to find new and innovative ways to solve their business challenges.

Some of the themes we plan to discuss include:
  • How is the HRBP role changing as the HR operating model matures?
  • What are some best practices for building relationships with and leveraging HR Service Centers, Centers of Excellence, external experts, etc.?
  • What impact has technology had on how HRBPs execute their role in creating business unit HR strategies?
  • How are companies defining the role and competency differences between “HR Generalist” and “HR Business Partner?”
  • How are changes in the external environment (economic, legislative, and regulatory) impacting the way organizations think through the alignment of corporate and BU-level human capital programs? 
  • What are the approaches HRBPs are taking to some of the hot topics facing companies today (i.e. Sexual Harassment, Immigration, Workplace Flexibility/Gig workers, Automation/Robotics, etc.)?
  • What skills are the most important for HRBPs to have today? Tomorrow?  
  • How can HRBPs enable positive and engaging employee experiences?
  • How are organizations developing the next generation of executive-level HRBPs? What key development opportunities do HRBPs require?  How has the career path changed?
  • How should HRBPs best approach potentially “career limiting” situations? (e.g., getting caught between two powerful senior leaders, etc.)
  • How do organizations ensure best practices are shared, deployed and leveraged while recognizing the need for specific client group customization?

In preparation for the meeting, please spend some time reflecting on your own personal experiences in the above areas. Also, if you have any success stories or examples in action at your organization, please plan to share them with the rest of the participants. During the meeting, we’ll spend time talking about many of the above areas as well as others that are identified through the course of our conversations together.  

This working group will run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm with a continental breakfast starting at 8:30 am and working lunch.  The session is free of charge to CAHRS partner firms, but participation is limited to no more than twenty-five attendees.
