Increasingly, HR Analytics is seen as a key HR capability and HR function to enhance decision making.  Recent case studies suggest that analytics-based insights have been critical to improving workforce retention, engagement, diversity, and productivity.  Another critical direction and work stream within many organizations and HR Analytics teams is Strategic Workforce Planning (SWP).  While not a new topic, new uses of data potentially are helpful in approaching how to model and carryout SWP in an age when business planning may be more uncertain and challenging than ever.  In this working group, we will look to discuss and share ideas and potential best practices on the following issues:

  • How do you address different types of SWP? What is the mix of strategic (long-term), operational (mid-term), and tactical (short-term) planning?
  • What successes have you had in aligning business/talent demand forecasts with talent/labor supply? How do you resolve supply-demand gaps?
  • How do you partner with the business to identify future demand for products/services to help you identify talent needs?
  • Longer planning time horizons usually result in less accurate forecasts. How do you balance tradeoffs of accuracy and certainty in SWP?
  • What processes/tools/systems have you found useful for SWP?

This Working Group will start with a continental breakfast at 8:30am and run until 3:00pm with a working lunch.
